Webcam Time, Bring the Cube Wine
Written on December 6, 2007
Target has come out with a new spin on the boxed wine concept, with a little rebranding and sales tactic they have essentially the same thing but call it “Cube Wine”. It’s still the socially-unacceptable, embarrassing product as before but with a trendier spin on it. But, I won’t lie, pouring a glass of wine has never been easier, just walk up to the box/cube, hold down the lever, and out shoots the wine.
Anyway, here’s something else that’s cool. We were hanging out with the boys from Cadillac Rock Box last night taping a Bandbo Digs webisode and they mentioned something about Zakk’s Coffeehouse, a club/venue in Murfreesboro, NC, that blew my mind. This venue offers live webcasts of its shows. So after CRB played there they were receiving emails from viewers all over the country/world including soldiers in Iraq.
It’s not that the technology blows my mind, but the fact that a venue is using it. Don’t get me wrong, without venues there would be very few opportunities to play live , but in my experience, if it doesn’t make them money right away or if it benefits others more than their establishment, chances are they aren’t gonna do it. So it’s awesome to see a venue utilize technology in a way that isn’t seen very often. They realize that not all fans are gonna make it to every show and they’ve created a solution for out-of-state bands and their fans.
I encourage all you live-music venue owners to take a page from Zakk’s notebook and set something like this up. With some ads by google placed on your site you could actually see that ROI that you drool about in your sleep.
I guess it can’t be that surprising that they are givers since Zakk’s also offers PENNY DRAFT NITE EVERY WED! But, it is surprising, and refreshing, to see someone, especially a venue, with their order of priorities being: 1st: Share, 2nd make money.
Check them out, they are seeking donations for their webcam feature and I encourage you to send them a dollar to keep it alive.
Have a great week, and remember, the music isn’t in the piano.

I agree, Zakk’s is a great venue and their support for local music is almost unmatched and definitely not the norm within the music scene.
